What We Do

Our family settled in California at the turn of the century as Swiss cattle farmers. Alfred Salzgeber invested heavily in California real estate and purchased this raw land boardering the Carpinteria Creek in 1940 and it was the home to thousands of migrating butterflies. Migrations sadly began to dwindle in the mid 1990’s State wide. Today the Salzgeber Family has partnered with the State of California’s Fish and Game as the number 14th ranked butterfly sanctuary in California in an effort to permanently protect and restore the butterfly population.

Our Mission

It is our mission to educate the public about California butterfly conservation in their natural habitat particularly in the spring and winter month migrations. We are currently curating the property by popoulating the land with indigenous plants that attract butterflies and our goal is to restore the butterfly population that is vital to our environment and health of our planet.

“The monarch butterfly is one of the most recognizable species in North America and it’s in trouble. Climate change has intensified weather events which may impact monarch populations. Pesticide use can destroy the milkweed monarchs need to survive. Habitat loss and fragmentation has occurred throughout the monarch’s range. You can help!”
